Chapter 8 Reflection

Chapter 8 reveals the third standard in NETS-T, which requires you to "demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations," (189.) This chapter discusses the selection of hardware and software resources best suited for particular learning experiences. Chapter 8 also mentions hardware and software maintenance techniques, including specific techniques to identify and solve common hardware and software problems.

As future educators it is important for us to focus on software because, first off, as a teacher you may have little influence over the selection of hardware at the school. It is a good idea to be well educated and prepared for any type of software that we might have to deal with in the future. Also, computer software can enhance a teachers' instruction in several ways. It can help serve as a tutor, as a mind tool, or as a support for conversation.

We must also familiarize ourselves with basic troubleshooting techniques found within the computer manual and learn the basic maintenance and security of the software. Adopt a confident and open attitude that allows acceptance to help when offered, even from your students. Do not be ashamed to ask questions, everybody does. "Don't be afraid to ask dumb questions, they're more easily handled than dumb mistakes."

  1. Yes I also think that learning about software is important, not only for us future teachers but also like you said, software gives us a great variety of teaching tutorials that we could use in our curriculum. I think what was also important was the rubrics, because this will allow us to better pick new software.

  2. I agree, as educators knowing software is important. It mentions in the book that you can have all the hardware but without the software it is useless. Great blog!
